What is calcaneal bursitis?

Calcaneal Bursitis is an inflammatory disease that affects the posterior area of the heel. There are a superficial and a deep retrocalcaneal bursa; these are on the back of the heel and the Achilles’ tendon. These are sacks of fluid with the function of facilitating the sliding between the tendons and the bony structures reducing the suffering due to excessive friction of both structures.

What’s a Bunionettes?

Similar to bunions, bunionettes are a prominence of the fifth toe at the outer border of the foot.

Treatment is very similar to that of a bunion, which begins with first wearing wider shoes until symptoms are no longer tolerable.

Surgery rarely allows for simple shaving off of the bump because, again, this is an angular deformity of two bones, and the bones have to be straightened to correct the angle.

Rolando Meléndez, DPM in Corona and Jackson Heights, NY will help you with your foot and ankle problem.
